Jimny Nomad vs 3-door: size, practicality, price
Same car, 340mm apart. Which one you want depends almost entirely on whether anyone else is getting in.
The numbers
The Nomad adds 340mm of wheelbase and around 126 litres of boot space, plus two rear doors. Kerb weight rises modestly. Engine, gearbox and four-wheel-drive system are identical.
Where the three-door wins
Off-road, marginally. A shorter wheelbase gives a better breakover angle, which matters when cresting sharp ridges. It is also fractionally more manoeuvrable in tight woodland and easier to park.
Aesthetically, many people simply prefer it. The three-door’s proportions are part of the car’s charm, and the Nomad — while far from ugly — looks more conventional.
It is also cheaper, and more of them exist.
Where the Nomad wins
Everywhere else, if you carry people. Rear doors instead of tipping a front seat forward. Rear seats adults can occupy. A boot that takes luggage rather than a bag.
For anyone using a Jimny as their only car, the Nomad is the one that makes that realistic.
The honest summary
If the Jimny is a second vehicle, a toy or a green-laner, the four-seat Sierra is cheaper, more characterful and slightly better on severe terrain.
If it has to do family duty, buy the Nomad and do not agonise. The breakover-angle difference will never affect you; the rear doors will affect you every day.
